Shinnecock/Peconic Report

Shinnecock Bay/Inlet/Ocean Shinnecock bay fluking is finally picking up. Plenty of keepers are in the mix for those both bucktailing and using bottom rigs. Tip either with some local squid and spearing for your baits. The ocean fluke bite has not really started yet but look for some action after the suns been out a few days and water temps improve. The western bay has seen some decent action on the flounder throughout the weekend, unfortunately the season closes the 30th. Hopefully this is the beginning of something good for the flounder stocks future. Bass have been spotty with some fish in the bay areas falling to some topwater action but more on clam baits. The blues are moving about the bay ravaging the bait, look for the birds for some action. Peconic Bay Action has been very goodhere with Porgies, Fluke, Blues, Bass, Weakfish and even some Blowfish and Kingfish in the mix. Most who want to bend a rod have been very successful with the huge porgies, clam chum and worm or clam baits will get you a cooler full. The Jessup area has been holding the lion's share but most anywhere will do. The fluke are around Shelter Island and out by Gardner's. Blues are scattered throughout the bay following the large schools of bunker and the bass are below them feasting on the scraps. Blowfish and Kingfish have been an accidental catch while targeting the other species. The weakfish are around but are thinning out. Surf/Shore bound/Canal The ocean beaches have been fairly quiet. Most of the action on the bass and blues has come from the back bay areas of both Shinnecock and Peconic bays. The fish have fallen to both bait and lures. Soft plastics and topwaters have fooled the bass while diamond jigs have taken the blues. The inlet has had a pick of fish on bucktails. The canal has had great action with fluke and blowfish being the best bet when the locks are closed. Plenty of keeper fluke have come out of the canal up to 23:" News The shop is now open 7am-7pm Mon-Fri, 6am-7pm Sat and 6am-3pm Sundays
