Shinnecock, Peconic and Offshore Report 7/10/11

Shinnecock Bay/Inlet/Ocean
The fluke bite in Shinnecock bay has finally started producing some keepers. I now hear the ratio has improved to 15:1. Weighed in a 5 1/2lb fluke caught by the youngster, Jackson Eckart, fishing with his Grandfather Bill Horan on the 4th from the east cut (photo attached) and a 8 1/2lb fluke caught by Bill Brewer this week of Rampasture point on a live Jumbo killie. The bass bite is still good in the inlet on both live and clam baits, but not as good as it was. Blues still ravaging the baits in the inlet and bay. Trigger fish are coming out of the inlet also on clam baits. The reef outside the inlet continues to produce some quality seabass, porgies and a few fluke.

Peconic Bay
The Robins Island area continues to produce porgies, clam and worm baits along with clam chum will keep them under your boat.

Shorebound/Surf
The Shinnecock inlet continues to produce bass, blues, triggers and a few porgies. The bass are coming on both baits and bucktails on the night tides. The canal has seen porgies at the noth end and a few fluke at the southern end. The ocean beaches are starting to show more signs of life this week both east and west of the inlet, with both bass and blues falling to clam baits as well as swimming plugs in the dark. The Ponquogue bridge is holding some nice live baits in the dark. Try chunking these baits for that trophy.

Offshore
The shark fish is better this year than the past few with quite a few makos and threshers making it to the scales. The run is short and the bite is good. The bluefin reports are beginning to show more consistency, with the same are south west of the Coimbra holding some fish as well as the Barcardi. The small yellowfin are falling for trolled lures but not much for the box.
