Shinnecock Area Report 10/3/10
Shinnecock Bay/Inlet/Ocean
The weather is finally cooperating with the bass and temps are falling as we needed. The inlet and Ponquogue bridge are both producing fish but not in great numbers. We’ll have to wait and see what the fall temps produce. Best bet is live bait. The local wrecks and reef are holding sea bass and blackfish, just need a little cooperation from Mother Nature to get out of the inlet.
Beaches/Shore Bound
The beaches are beginning to show a little more action. Blues and bass can be found both east and west of the inlet. The inlet has rewarded anglers using bucktails with some keeper size bass.
NEWS
Getting a good turnout as the temps begin to drop for our East End Bait & Tackle’s 2nd Annual Fall Striped Bass Tournament- Surf and Boat divisions. Sept. 15th - Nov. 20th. Stop by the shop or give a call to sign up or for more details.

The Shinnecock Bass Bite
Once this weather moves out tonight the wind is forecast to turn around from the north. With it moving out of the NE on Sunday. Temps are expected to drop into the 40's at night next week, all good indicators that the bass bite should start to turn on next week. The weekend should not be a total loss as the north wind should lay the ocean and inlet down a bit. Give the beaches, inlet or Ponquogue bridge a shot this weekend and you should hook up. Good luck and see you out there.

Shinnecock, Peconic and Offshore Report 9/26/10
Shinnecock Bay/Inlet/Ocean
The bass are here, just not blitzing like we would hope. Be patient, the season has been a great one to date and all indicators show the fall will be too. The bait is here, we just need the water temperatures to drop a little more and it should turn on. Bass are at the Ponquogue bridge for those clam chummers on the west side of the bridge and at the back of the inlet. Blues are mixed in as well. Drifting the Shinnecock inlet with live bait has produced bass to 25lbs. When weather permits and the winds lay down long enough to get out the inlet sea bass continue to fill limits. The reef and local wrecks have seen plenty of action including blackfish (released) which would indicate the opener on Oct. 1st should be a good one.
Peconic Bay
Plenty of porgies.
Beaches/Shore Bound
The beaches to the east and west of the Shinnecock Inlet have produced both bass and blues. Most bass are schoolies up to the keeper mark. Tins, needles and swimmers have all been producing fish. The inlet has had some action as well as the Ponquogue bridge. The baits of choice have been clams and sandworms. The canal is still holding some snappers.
Offshore
Reports indicate the bluefin bite at the compass rose has slowed considerably, although due to the weather not many boats have gotten out to give it a shot.

Shinnecock, Peconic and Offshore Report 8/1/10
Shinnecock Bay/Inlet/Ocean
Fluke bite in both the ocean and Shinnecock bay are nothing less than spectacular. Fish are in 60 ft. of water out front and the shallows in the bay. Small bucktails tipped with spearing or gulp have been the answer for trophy fluke in the bay while large live baits are the bait in the deeper waters. Those targeting sea bass on the wrecks and reef continue to be rewarded with quality fish to 4lbs but beware of the monster bluefish that are waiting to take a bite of your hooked fish on the way up. Striped bass has slowed but those who put in the time are taking home fish for the table. Both the inlet and Ponquogue are holding fish.
Peconic Bay
A few weaks have been found in the Rose’s Grove area by the sharpies. Squid strips bait of choice on the hi-lo rig.
Beaches/Shore Bound
Bass are holding at both the bridge and inlet, live bait has produced some keepers, clams are working too, but the bigger fish prefer the live bait. A few fish have been reported from the sand beaches but nothing to write home about. The inlet also still giving those on the jetty a thrill with a good amount of Triggerfish, use a porgy rig with clam to score with these guys. The canal still has a mixed bag with some fluke, porgies and snappers. Snappers are not in great numbers yet but should turn on at any moment now.
Offshore
The Yellowfin bite is great out south of the Tails and the area SW of the Coimbra is still holding the bluefin. The bluefin catches of late have responded better to the chunk and jig better than the troll. Remember one bluefin per boat per day, between 27” and 59” and the Trophy season is closed to all with fish over 73”

Shinnecock, Peconic and Offshore Report 7/11/10
Shinnecock Bay/Inlet/Ocean
Fluke in the bay, Rampasture, East cut and the flats at the back of the inlet have all produced nice fish, shallow water fluking at it’s finest. The ocean fluke bite continues to improve, 65 feet of water around the sea buoy or in front of the cheese house. The bass bite is slowing down with much smaller fish coming from the Ponquogue bridge area, best bet for a keeper is in the inlet on live bait on the night tides. Bluefish to 10lbs are ravaging baits in the inlet. The bay is loaded with sandeels and the ocean with anchovies great signs of what is to come.
Peconic Bay
Porgies around Rogers Rock
Beaches/Shore Bound
Triggerfish off the jetty of the Shinnecock Inlet along with a few porgies striped bass and blues. Fluke can be had at the inlet, bridge and canal. The beaches have been fairly quiet but Dave, a shop regular came in with a nice Spanish mackerel caught from the surf on Thursday. The north end of the canal continues to produce porgies.
Offshore
Lots of life is what everyone has been reporting, whales, porpoise, turtles and lots of bait. Sharking has been quiet, if your planning a trip run short, no more than 10 miles, the bait is close to shore or at 40 fathoms with the tuna bite of both blue and Yellowfin. The tuna bite off the edge in the deep as well. Mahi have been holding strong at the pots.

Those who chose to anchor up and clam clam belly west of the bridge have been rewarded with their share of striped bass.
Peconic Bay
The bite at Greenlawns continues to be slow. The blues are still all over the bay. Frying pan size porgies have been reported around Rogers Rock. A few weakfish in the Jamesport area on the north fork but not much in our area. Striped bass in the south race.
Beaches/Shore Bound
The ocean beaches along the south fork are producing schoolies bass to just keeper size and cocktail blues. On Thursday 5/27 we weighed in a 40lb Striped bass caught by Ronald Finch, he was fishing bunker chunks on the beach east of the Shinnecock Inlet. The Shinnecock canal has seen quite a bit of action this week with cocktail blues, striped bass, fluke and porgies all be reported. Try for the fluke when the locks are closed and all others can be targeted when the locks are open or closed.

Shinnecock & Peconic Area Report 5/23/10
Shinnecock Bay/Inlet/Ocean
The ocean fluke bite has been slow to get going. Fish up to 7lbs have been reported but it’s a slow pick at best. The bay bite is starting to turn on, give it a shot west of the Ponquogue Bridge. Bluefish remain the number one predator of the bay and inlet. They are feeding on the huge schools of spearing moving about the bay, just look for the birds working. Seabass have come over the rails out on the Shinnecock reef. Striped bass have been reported at the bridge and inlet, schoolies are most of the action right now. Give anchoring up west of the bridge or by the red can inside the inlet a shot on the out going tide for the bass. Those willing to drag the umbrella rigs out in 70-90 ft. of water have been rewarded with plenty of keeper bass, no birds showing but plenty of sandeels.
Peconic Bay
The fluke bite at Greenlawns has slowed quite a bit. The blues are still all over the bay. Frying pan size porgies have been reported around Rogers Rock. We are still getting reports of a few weakfish on the north fork but not much in our area. Striped bass have come out of the south race.
Beaches/Shore Bound
The ocean beaches along the south fork are producing schoolies bass to just keeper size and cocktail blues. The bass are out in the deeper water, it’s just a matter of time before the bait moves closer to the beaches. Top water plugs and tins are the best producers. The Shinnecock canal has seen quite a bit of action this week with cocktail blues, striped bass, fluke and porgies all be reported. Try for the fluke when the locks are closed and all others can be targeted when the locks are open or closed.

Area Reports
Shinnecock
Fluke to 8 lbs were weighed in on opening day, falling to local squid spearing combo around the sea buoy. Plenty of shorts in the ocean, keepers were hard to come by. Those targeting fluke in the Shinnecock Canal have been finding the occasional keeper. The north end of the canal is producing many bluefish.
Plenty of bluefish in Shinnecock Bay, just look for the birds, throw an AVA jig and you should be rewarded. Bass can be found at the Ponquogue Bridge and at Shinnecock Inlet, clam or bunker chunks for bait or top water plugs.
Peconic
Bluefish can be found anywhere; they have taken over the bay. Bass are at Cow neck and National. The fluke bite around the Greenlawn area was very good although the ratio of keepers to shorts was very low. Porgies are here in good numbers, should bold well for the opener on the 24th. Give Rogers Rock a shot. We have sandworms and clam chum on hand for the opener.
Beaches
The ocean beaches from Moriches to Montauk continue to produce both blues and bass although the wind did put a hamper on the efforts. Baiters should use clams or bunker chunks, top water plugs have been doing the trick in the lure dept. Bucktails have caught their share as well. In Peconic, both National and Cow Neck have seen bass and blues and a weakfish here and there.

FLUKE WEEKEND FORECAST
The Report for the Shinnecock & Peconic bays looks good for the opener tomorrow. Fish up to 10 lbs have been reported at the Greenlawns area and fish to 8 lbs have been caught and released outside of Shinnecock inlet. The wind may blow a bit on Saturday but Sun & Mon look great. Be sure to stop in and get your local caught spearing and squid, including whole hook bait size squids. We also have on hand sandeels. We anticipate having the JUMBO Killies we are known for in the morning, but give us a call to confirm we have them. If you need a saltwater fishing license we have them as well. Heres to the start of a great season.
Now opening earlier- weekends at 5am and weekdays at 6am

Shinnecock Area Report 5/9/10
Blues and bass have been the main targets of the week with good results. Those fishing the ocean beaches and Ponquogue bridge have been rewarded with bass to 30" and blues to 8lbs. The Quogue canal and Peconic River produced plenty of action with the blues and the occational bass. The canal has produced it's share of blues as well, give the north end at the jetty a shot as well as around the locks area. Three year old Ryan Connelly caught and released a 22" fluke from the canal on Thursday while weakfishing with his dad. Weakfish reports have come back from the Peconics but they are refusing to cooperate, fish are being spotted but not willing to take the baits offered. We are receiving some very encouraging reports of fluke in front of the inlet and are anticipating a great fluke openner on the 15th. Next weekend we will be stocked with all the usual baits including Live killies and eels.
Surf Report
The Beaches from Moriches to Montauk have been producing bass to 34" and blues to 10lbs. Those throwing topwater swimmers have been rewarded with the bass. The AVA Jigs have done well with the blues. Clam and bunker chunk baits are producing as well. Flanders bay and the 105 bridge areas have seen plenty of bunker with both bass and blues chasing them. Cow Neck in the Peconics has shown some weakfish but no reported catches just yet.

Just received a report from a customer, Plenty of bluefish for the taking at the bridge as I'm writing this

Shinnecock Area Report 5/3/10
Flounder reports have been scarce this week, best bets are the canals of Quogue and Shinnecock. The blues are here and can be found along the beaches, Shinnecock canal, the 105 bridge in Flanders and the Peconics. Blues up to 12lbs are ravaging the huge schools of bunker and are taking anything you throw at them. Bass can be found mixed in with the blues but you have to get through them to get to the bass below. Ponquogue bridge has been holding some bass as well. Try bunker chunks for the bass and blues or live lining if you can snag a few. First reports of fluke made it back to the shop, a mix of shorts and a few keepers out in front of the inlet, as reported by those fishing the boats with RSA permits.
